Message from our founder Jon Elton
I grew up in Edmonton where my father Dalt Elton managed Radio Station CJCA.
I grew up around the radio station, starting as the station mascot (a Tiger) up to working as an all night disc jockey. The perks were great, free records and tickets to all the film premiers and concerts. At the time father said, “Look in the parking lot, it’s the sales guys that have the nice cars, if you have to get into this business (which he didn’t really recommend) go into sales, not talent.” Fortunately, I wasn’t a great announcer.
In 1974, I graduated from Brigham Young University with degrees in French and Communications, and with wife Mary and new baby Matthew we moved to Vancouver looking for a job.
I went to work for BCTV, now Global, as a sales account executive. (Thanks dad), moved on to Adams and Brown, small ad agency where I really caught the agency bug. Unfortunately, they went out of business a year later. So I took my two main accounts, Vancouver Brake and Wheel and Kits Cameras and joined Baker Lovick Advertising, one of the largest agencies in Vancouver. After two years with Lovick, I was recruited to join KVOS-TV as a Senior Account Executive.
While an account exec for KVOS, I started my own small ad agency called ProCom Marketing, with a couple of clients I was close to. Upon leaving KVOS in 1986 I changed the agency name to Elton Advertising, and went full time into the ad business.
I love the creative process, working with clients and seeing them grow. Having worked at radio and TV stations, I have some experience on how media companies work. I enjoy using that knowledge and my many media contacts to negotiate creative and efficient buys for our clients.
I am still involved with church and community work and have served as a Bishop, a Scout Master, Young Single Adult branch president and Sunday School teacher. I believe in charity and I’ve worked with the Union Gospel Mission, the Salvation Army, The John Volken Academy, Lift the Children, and the Adopt an African Clinic.
Mary and I are the proud parents of six children, thirteen grand children. I enjoy playing squash, gardening, skiing, boating, pottery, and travel.
